Where Flow-Forming Meets Counter-Pressure Casting

The SR is produced using BBS's counter-pressure casting process, followed by flow-forming of the inner rim area. This is the same technology the brand introduced to the aftermarket in 1996 and has refined over decades of motorsport and OEM supply. During flow-forming, the cast blank is rotated under tremendous pressure at high temperature, and three hydraulic rollers form the inner rim area, compacting the material and aligning its grain structure. This process changes the mechanical properties of the cast rim, increasing strength and stiffness while reducing weight. The result is a wheel that delivers a stiffness-to-weight ratio far beyond what a conventional casting can achieve, at a cost that remains accessible. BBS develops this geometry in-house, and no replica producer has access to the tooling.

The SR's defining feature is its multi-spoke pattern with soft radii and contours that run from the hub to the flange. Those soft transitions make the wheel easy to clean, which is especially practical during winter months. The spokes that continue through to the hub bore create a visual effect that makes the wheel seem larger than it is, and the diamond-cut finish option adds a layer of contrast that becomes visible on close inspection.
