Weight Reduction Without Compromise

BBS CI-R is a flow-formed wheel designed around a single performance priority: reducing rotational mass without compromising the structural requirements of a performance road wheel. Back-milling the five Y-spokes removes material from surfaces that do not lie in the primary load paths, reducing weight at the outer diameter where the rotational inertia effect is most significant. Combined with the flow-formed barrel, which provides forged-level strength at cast-process cost, the CI-R achieves a weight-to-stiffness ratio that justifies its use on vehicles driven at the limit.

Motorsport Geometry, Road-Legal Construction

BBS's motorsport division developed the Y-spoke geometry for racing applications before it was adapted for the CI-R road wheel. The flow-formed manufacturing process then makes this geometry financially accessible: counter-pressure casting the centre preserves the complex Y-spoke shape that a forged blank would require extensive machining to produce, while flow-forming the barrel delivers the mechanical properties that justify the wheel's use on the most demanding production performance cars. The replaceable stainless-steel rim protector completes the motorsport pedigree.
