BBS LM — The Flow-Formed Two-Piece Wheel Inspired by Le Mans
The Design That Defined a Genre
Some wheels are designed to follow trends. The BBS LM was designed to set one. First introduced in 1994 and named after the 24 Hours of Le Mans — the endurance race where BBS racing wheels won for decades — the LM is the wheel that defined what a two-piece mesh design should look like. Its cross-spoke face and diamond-cut rim have become a reference point for enthusiasts around the world, and the design has remained in continuous production for over thirty years because it was resolved correctly the first time.
Where Flow-Forming Meets Two-Piece Construction
The LM is produced by BBS Japan using a combination of technologies that reflects the brand's motorsport heritage. The centre face begins as a high-quality aluminium blank, which is heated and flow-formed under extreme pressure to create a dense, fine-grained metal structure. The outer rim is flow-formed separately, allowing BBS to achieve a rim well thickness of just 2.25 mm — significantly thinner and lighter than a conventional casting. The two components are then joined using exposed stainless hardware, a construction that allows for precise assembly and, uniquely for this category, the ability to replace the outer rim if it is damaged. This is a wheel built to be serviced, not simply replaced.
Why Flow-Forming Matters on the LM
Flow-forming is not a marketing term — it is a metallurgical process. By spinning the aluminium blank against hydraulic rollers at high temperature, BBS compacts the material and aligns its grain structure, producing a wheel that is both lighter and stronger than a conventional cast alternative. On the LM, this translates into a measurable reduction in unsprung mass — approximately 20% compared to a traditional cast alloy wheel of similar dimensions. The result is sharper turn-in, quicker acceleration, and improved braking response. The LM's two-piece construction also allows for a wider range of offsets and lip depths than a one-piece design, which is why it remains a favourite for everything from Porsche 911s to JDM legends.
For Drivers Who Value Proven Design
The BBS LM suits owners of Porsche 911, BMW M3, and Nissan Skyline GT-R — cars where the wheel must be both visually correct and technically capable. Every specification is validated against the individual vehicle before production begins. Reach us to begin your fitment review.

BBS is the original pioneer of the performance wheel — founded in 1970 in Schiltach, Germany, with BBS Japan established in 1983. The brand built its reputation on a single conviction: that motorsport engineering should reach the road, not remain locked in the paddock. That conviction is embodied most clearly in BBS Flow Forming technology — the process that defines the brand's Performance Line and brings racing-derived engineering to a broad range of luxury and performance vehicles.
Hodoor sources BBS wheels through trusted dealer channels and verifies the correct fitment, finish and delivery options before quoting.
